Insect Repellent Education

The Basics

INSECT REPELLENTS are agents that are used to protect the body from the bites of insects that can cause local or systemic effects. The most well-known and well-used chemical repellent is DEET. Other chemical insect repellents mix harsh chemicals such as pyrethrins, permethrin, and piperonyl butoxide with 90%+ water to make their product.

About Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is a plant native to the Northeast with healing properties so powerful that Native Americans used it as a topical healing solution as early as the 16th century.

Jack’s Gnat Attack & Jack’s Gnat Attack Equine use Witch Hazel products that are extracted from the twigs and bark of the Witch Hazel Plant and distilled into a natural astringent that is one of the gentlest ways to cleanse and soothe skin.

Witch Hazel is so gentle that it can be used on nearly any type of skin. People and horses with oily skin find that Witch Hazel helps them achieve a balance other astringents can't.  With dry skin problems, Witch Hazel helps control flakes while leaving essential moisture on the skin.
